Frequently Asked Questions
What is coaching?
Coaching is a professional partnership in which a trained coach partners with a client to intentionally facilitate the client’s growth from where they are toward where they want to be.
In our coaching sessions, we will focus on clarifying goals, increasing awareness, creating strategies, and activating forward-moving actions that are owned by you rather than directed by me. In our partnership, you are capable of generating your own insights and solutions. I will create an environment of deep listening, powerful questioning, reflection, and accountability that enables you to discover and pursue meaningful possibilities.
What is the difference between coaching and counseling / consulting / mentoring?
Coaching is a collaborative, forward-focused partnership that assumes the client is naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. A coach does not fix, treat, advise, or direct; instead, a coach evokes awareness and action from the client. Counseling helps to heal dysfunction and pain, consulting supplies solutions, and mentoring transfers experience.
The essence of our coaching relationship lies in holding you as whole and partnering with you to create forward movement from your own insight, motivated by your passion. During our time together, we will unlock your capacity for awareness, choice, and action.
Why do people work with coaches?
People typically reach out to coaches to gain clarity, increase awareness, convert insight into action, improve effectiveness, navigate transitions, strengthen confidence, and—within Christian coaching—discern purpose and calling. Coaching can transform vague desire into intentional movement. There should be no particular dysfunctions or diagnostic issues that need healing – that is the work of therapy and counseling.
There are seasons in life when we find ourselves standing at a crossroads. Maybe you’ve just become an empty nester, or perhaps your career no longer feels aligned with where you hoped to be. Coaching with me offers a space to uncover your vision, reconnect with your desires, and gain clarity on the next step that feels right for you.
What is the ICF and why does it matter?
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the leading global organization that sets professional standards for coaching and offers respected, independent credentials. Its guidelines help ensure coaches are trained, ethical, and committed to ongoing development. Because the coaching field is currently unregulated, anyone can call themselves a coach—making clear standards especially important. ICF accreditation provides accountability, consistency, and trust, giving clients confidence that their coach has met rigorous expectations. When you look for a coach, make sure to check their education and certification.
I have chosen the Professional Christian Coaching Institute (PCCI) for my coaching education because they closely follow the ICF Code of Ethics and teach according to the ICF’s standards. I myself as a coach follow these standards as they help me navigate our journey together with integrity and purpose.
